Dog Treat Recipe

The recipes are simple and there are many options!  For a simple baked cookie that can hold a dose of CBD when served, try this.

Preheat oven to 350 and dust a rolling surface with flour.

Mix together:

  • 3 cups wholesome flour
  • 1 large egg
  • About 1/2 cup pure pumpkin, shredded carrots or apples, or any healthy dog-friendly veggie or fruit.
  • 2-3 tablespoons bacon grease, coconut oil, or any healthy oil.

Mix all ingredients with your hands to form a stiff dough. Add more flour or water if necessary.

Roll out dough to about 1/4-1/3” thick. Cut into shapes (I use a small glass) or small strips.

Place onto lightly greased baking sheet.  Press your thumb or a spoon to make a dent in each cookie (about 1/8 tsp. sized).  Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until lightly browned on bottom (tops of treats will not be as browned).

Cool on a wire rack & store in an airtight container.  They keep well in frig, a few weeks.  They can be frozen as well.

You can then add the CBD on the cookie when you serve it-but it can be messy,  so you can also add before baking on each cookie (that’s what I’m going to do next time).  Dosage is based on doggie size-Kiko is about 40 pounds and gets about 200 mg. daily (1/3 dropper twice a day) so baking in, I will just add 1/3 dropper to each cookie in the “dent”.  The heat will not hurt the effectiveness of the CBD!

This recipe is very flexible (doggies are typically easy to please) so have some fun experimenting as I am still doing.  Replacing some of the flour with oatmeal, for example, will change the texture.  They can get hard, so I recommend not over baking.

The other option I use is pure pumpkin frozen treats!  Great for summer, and doggies love them.  Just place a teaspoon-sized glob of pureed pumpkin ( make sure it’s only pumpkin-no sugar or spices!!!) on cookie sheets, then make the same 1/8 tsp. dent in each.  Stick in freezer for an hour or two to freeze, then gather into a covered container for freezer storage.  Serve with liquid dose OR freeze dose into each treat for tidier treats!
