Pot 'n Kettle Farms
Owned and operated by two sisters, Pot ‘ Kettle Farms was a natural extension of the organic farming they did to put a variety of tomatoes, squash, peppers, and herbs on their own table for years. While this is their first year growing, with help, they succeeded where other newcomers have failed. As some say, it takes a village, and a village is what they had as they planted and grew their crop under the guidance of Derby City Extracts. Derby City Extracts provided the hemp-specific knowledge, organic products, and effort that helped turned the 2019 hemp season into a success and produce beautiful gluey flowers laden with CBD and terpenes.
Located in Franklin county on a small farm, Pot n’ Kettles is buffered from traditional agriculture by a creek running along one side and grassy meadows on the other. Full sun on a terraced slope offers an excellent well-drained growing environment for hemp. The field was once a horse farm and has been untouched by non-organic products as long as anyone can remember.
Plasticulture was used during the 2019 season. This organic method, used by many organic vegetable farms, naturally reduces the pressure that weeds place on the hemp plant and conserves the water needed to keep the plants healthy. With frequent applications of organic tea and side-dressed organic fertilizer, some plants produced almost two pounds of sparkling flowers.
Toward the later part of the harvest, care was taken to manually remove any weeds and insect larvae, which is typical for the area.
The farm produced a mature crop of both T1, an Indica-dominant strain, and Sweetened, a Sativa-dominant strain. Both strains came in around 10% CBD and < .03 THC and were naturally air-cured on drying racks before storing for later processing.
